Back Story: “The legend hasn’t traveled over here as yet but the game has but I do know that Mary the queen of Scotts and Mary 1 has nothing to do with it. Because the legend hasn’t originated from here.”

Ritual: “Go into to the bathroom and turn out the lights you put your hands beside both of your eyes and press your face to the mirror and say Bloody Mary 3 times.”

Result: “After this has been done Bloody Mary appears behind you, but when you turn around no one is there, but in the next few days you die a bloody death, and join Mary in the mirror.”

Experience: “I have seen this ritual been done although nothing has ever happened when I’ve been there.”

Personal Note: I’m glad that you didn’t get it to work for you. Otherwise, we’d be chanting “Bloody Leigh” to get YOU to come out of the mirror to kill us… and I’d make a webpage about you.

Thanks: Thanks To ‘Leigh’ from West Yorkshire, England for submitting this legend.

Back Story: “Legend has it that Mary was a witch back in the early eighteenth century. She was an old woman wishing to regain her once youthful appearance. She apparently lived in a small, haggard cottage deep in the woods nearby a local village. One night a local farmer noticed a flickering light coming from the woods, he thought nothing of it. This was until one night when his young daughter began to ‘sleepwalk’ from their house into the woods. In a desperate attempt to stop his daughter, he woke his wife and followed the girl into the woods in an attempt to wake her up and bring her home. The man succeeded in doing so, only realizing that the girl was in a trance like state following the light. The next day the farmer spoke to the other villagers to see if they had noticed the light and if any of the village daughters had been lured towards it. On finding out that others had, the village set out on a trek into the woods to see what it was. Whilst in the woods they came across the witch’s cottage and saw her drinking the blood the of a young girl [in an attempt to regain her youth], in a blinded rage the villagers tied the witch to a stake in her garden and burnt her. Whilst the witch began to burn she screeched a curse on the villagers that if anyone was to say her name in their homes she would return to kill those who spoke of her.”

Ritual: “First you go into a room alone that has a mirror a [a bathroom seems to be the common place], lock the door and turn off the light. You are then supposed to place candles beneath the mirror. Stare into the mirror and repeat “Bloody Mary” six times into the mirror. This seems to work better at night.”

Result: “After you complete the ritual, Mary is supposed to either appear above your left shoulder and either leave you in piece or leave you covered in scratches, or in some cases she kills you.”

Thanks: Thanks To ‘Rebekah’ from Lincoln, England for submitting this legend. Good one. Well thought out.

Back Story: “I live in Harpenden, England. The local legend for Bloody Mary is that one year in the 1600’s the wheat crops were infected with a kind of fungus that makes you go into a deep, death like sleep. Mary was a 17 year old girl with long, dark hair and grey eyes. She ate some bread made with the poisoned wheat, went into the sleep, and subsequently her family thought she was dead and buried her. The science wasn’t totally great then, so they tied a string to Mary’s hand leading up to a bell on the surface that would ring when it was pulled. Her mother was distraught and sat beside her grave for 2 days, until she was forced inside by the snowy weather. The snow came down for days, trapping Mary’s family inside. After the storm, they came out to find the bell pulled over and the string loose, like it had been pulled. They dug Mary up and opened her coffin. The lid was covered with bloody scratch marks and her dress, hair and face were covered with blood, REALLY dead this time.”

Ritual: 1) In a dark room, bathroom, spare bedroom ect. wait until the early hours of the morning; this was when they opened the coffin

2) Light a single candle; they saw Mary’s body with only one candle

3) In front of a mirror, say “Bloody Mary” 17 times; once for each year of her life. No one knows why a mirror, it was lost to history

4) Turn around in a circle once

Result: 5) Mary will appear in the mirror and scratch any exposed skin on your body within view of the mirror. This usually means your face.

6) Blow out the candle.

Experience: “When I heard about the legend, I just had to try it, to scare my friends at a sleepover or prove it wrong. I went into the spare bedroom at 2am, a tiny room with a large mirror in it and called Mary. She appeared in the mirror, her face twisted in pain or sadness, and clawed my arms and face. I screamed and blew out the candle, and my friends ran in. They had to take me to hospital to get the scratches sewn up, but we just told the doctors it was a cat. Me and my friends vowed never to call Mary again, in case she did worse than just scratch us. I have the scars to show.”

Thanks: Thanks To ‘Claudia’ from Harpenden, England for submitting this legend. Great stuff!

Back Story: “In china, Bloody Mary is known as #^%&, or Bleeding Meylin. Meylin was the middle daughter of a rich tyrant who practically ruled a poor village. He sent his all his daughters to work in the fields. They were called Da-Xia, Qi, Meylin and Bai. Da-Xia was the most beautiful of the sisters and a young man came to her father for permission to marry her. Meylin was jealous, as she had fallen in love with the man. She murdered Da-Xia who fought back, scratching Meylin’s face, but Meylin stabbed Da-Xia to death, covering herself in blood in the process. Her father never found out, and died a year later. Da-Xia came to Qi and Bai in a dream and told them that Meylin had viciously murdered her. Bai and Qi tortured Meylin until she confessed, then they slit her throat, but not well, so it took a long time for her to die. She was executed in a room full of mirrors, and her angry soul flew into a mirror. She tricked Qi into saying her name 7 times (seven is an unlucky number in chinese), who she slashed to death with her nails. Bai went mad and had all mirrors in the village smashed, but she later drowned in a lake after believeing she saw Meylin’s reflection. Meylin had long black hair and powdered pale skin, and wore a traditional mandarin dress. Accounts of her in the mirror say she has black lips, eyes and hair, very pale skin and a black mandarin dress.”

Ritual: “To summon her, you wait until the seventh of July, the fourth of April, the sixth of June or the fifth of may at midnight. You need several mirrors but the room doesn’t matter. You say her name 7 times and the name of a boy or girl you like (in a romantic way).”

Result: “She will appear in he mirror. If she does not like the person you do, she will kill you or them. If she likes the match, she will bless you with prosperity.”

Other Submitted Information: “We attempted to go to her grave and there were dead animals hanging in the trees. We got scared and turned around. I grew up with my neighbors older sister having a piece of her grave stone in her bedroom, and was always curious of the truth in it.”

Thanks: Thanks To ‘Claudia’ from Harpenden, England for submitting this legend. Her friend, Jia Li in China told her about it, and she sent it to me! Thank you both for passing it along!!!

Adelaide, Australia

Back Story: Well in my city, Adelaide, it was pretty much the basic, general ritual and story, but usually it was either, the modern version: Mary died in a car crash, OR it was the old version: She died burning at the stake. And in both of the stories it was always, if you summon her, she leaps from mirror to mirror in your house until she finds you.

Ritual: You have to go into the bathroom, turn off all the lights, light candles and place them both beside the mirror, spin around 13 times whist chanting Bloody Mary.

Result: She is supposed to appear behind your left shoulder, and gouge out your eyes, but if you get away in time, she chases you in all the mirrors you pass until she reaches you and then she will kill you.

Other Submitted Information: “I have tried it before, and it hasn’t worked, but my friend I did it with, claims she saw a head bobbing up and down behind her left shoulder.”

Thanks: Thanks To ‘Snarkie’ from Adelaide, Australia for submitting this legend. It’s interesting how similar your story is to ours in America. Makes ya think.
