Night Time Pest

by Season

Around 2002-2003

I can’t remember if I had already been asleep or if I was drifting off to sleep but suddenly I had this incredible feeling like I was being watched and the urge to quickly look towards the doorway to my bedroom. There in the doorway stood a man with medium brown hair (thinning on top) and brown eyes. It’s been a long time but I think I remember he had on a short-sleeved button down shirt tucked into jeans. I couldn’t’ see his feet, not that I was taking the time to study him because this guy was NOT very nice.

He just looked at me with this leering grin on his face. I immediately yelled, “leave” and he was gone right before my eyes. I laid my head back down on the pillow (wide awake) in hopes of going back to sleep but just a few seconds later I got the feeling he wasn’t gone. I looked over and sure enough he was back. This time he “chuckled” at me and I got the feeling that he was having a good time scaring me. I got out of bed and stomped at him telling him firmly to leave and he did. I never saw him again.

I don’t know why I have this impression as my description of him to a neighbor didn’t quite fit but I just have this feeling that I had seen the owner of the house. The guy who owned this house not only owned it, but he built it himself. He died alone (his wife and kids left him) in my bedroom of diabetes. He never got to make the finishing touches (inside doors etc) on the house before he died.

A Warm Touch

by Season

September 2005

One night after the kids had gone to bed and my husband had gone to work I was once again reading on the computer when I felt a very distinct hand on my back. It was a warm touch and the hand was about the size of my own. I was hunched over so I straightened my back to see if the hand would remain and it did. After about 7 seconds it left and I turned around to find no one there.

Two days later my husband was on the computer and I was about 5 feet away from him on the couch watching TV. The kids had already gone to bed. All of a sudden he whipped around with a shocked and confused look on his face saying, “what the hell?”. He kept looking behind him and in a panicked voice told me that something had just touched him on the shoulder, slid down his shoulder, and tugged on his sleeve. He knew it wasn’t me because he could see me out of the corner of his eye the whole time. And the very second it happened he turned around to find no one there. He still refuses to talk about it to this day.

The Shaft Of Light That Saved My Life

by Season

November 2005

One night as I was getting ready for bed I went to turn on the heat. Something was wrong with our furnace, however, so I plugged in a little electric heater promising myself I wouldn’t fall asleep with it on. It is no more than a blow dryer really and not designed to stay on for long periods of time. Well, I fell asleep of course and sometime later I was “pulled awake” by a clear mental message that I needed to get up because I had left the heater on. Whatever was doing the pulling I don’t’ know for sure but it was a shaft of light seeming to hang in the air (not up against a wall or anything) and as I becoming fully awake I was already looking right at it and thanking it. That’s how I knew it was what had woken me up. I tried but I could not find a source for the light, outside nor otherwise. As soon as I thanked it, it was gone.

I got up to turn the electric heater off and unplug it when I noticed the outlet and the wall around it were scolding hot. I was afraid there might be a fire in the wires so I called the fire department who told me to feel the wall in about ten minutes and if it is not cooler to give them a call back. Thankfully it cooled down. Whoever that was who warned me, I will forever be grateful, my house could have burned down.

Visits From Mom

by Season

1996

My mother passed away of cancer ten years ago when I was 22 years old. As I was sitting there in the front row of the funeral looking at my her body in the casket wallowing in my pain I got this sudden and powerful urge to look up. It was if my eyes were moving of their own accord. There about 15 feet above her body was my mother. She was looking at me directly in the eye and smiling and out of nowhere this sudden burst of joy and peace washed over me. I smiled back at her and after a few more seconds she was gone.

About 3 months later I was going through a crisis in my life and didn’t think I would make it out of my rut. To make a long story short, in life my mother basically destroyed my self-esteem and self-confidence. I just kept crying and saying to myself, “I can’t do it, I can’t!” meaning I can’t dig myself out of this. I had lost all hope when suddenly from the right side of the room I got the impression someone was there. I then heard a loud voice tell me, “YES YOU CAN!!” It was my mother’s voice. That very moment, after months of agony, I finally found the strength and courage to start picking myself back up and after about a month and a half, I was back to normal again. As I said, in life my mother destroyed my self-confidence, but in “death” she gave some of it back to me.

Two years later (1998) I had just found out that I was pregnant with my second child, my daughter. I went to sleep that night with natural worries and concerns on my mind and sometime later, during my sleep, my mother visited me again. The only thing I can say is that she must have known I was afraid because all of a sudden I turned my head to the right and she was sitting about 5 feet away from my bed. She reached her arms out to me (like she NEVER did in life) and my spirit “ran” to her and into her arms. When she held me it was the most precious and heart wrenching experience I have ever felt. I never knew how it felt in life to be held and comforted by a mother so this touched me more than I can say. My spirit cried in her arms for long moments before she left and I went back to my body. When I returned I woke up almost immediately and already had tears streaming down my face, tears of joy! Yet again, she knew I needed her and came to me in my dream. I have not seen her since but I feel very comforted to know that she is able to come back to me when she wants to.

Last Goodbye

by Season

1983

I was ten years old and always dreaded bedtime. Being alone in my bedroom at night terrified me. That’s what makes this story so amazing to me. We lived in a two story house and the top floor only consisted of two bedrooms with a little platform at the top of the stairs between them. One was my older sister’s room, the other was mine.

It was around 9pm when I told my mother that I was going to bed. It must have shocked her as much as it did me because she looked up in surprise, raised an eyebrow, and said, “ok” in a strange voice. Not only was I  going to bed a half hour before my bedtime (which NEVER happened) but my older sister was spending the night with a friend so I would be on the second floor alone. I remember being so surprised at my own bravery, but the unexplainable warmth of joy and comfort spreading through my chest and the incredible urge to go to bed was very powerful.

I had just climbed into bed when not a MINUTE later I heard my mom coming up the stairs, or so I thought it was her. This is very strange and extremely rare! My mother hardly ever came up those stairs because she had weak legs and it hurt her to walk up them. Normally if she needed my sister or I she would just call to us from downstairs. And she knew I wasn’t asleep yet as I had just went to bed literally a minute or less before.

Nevertheless, I heard normal sounding footsteps start from the lower platform, all the way up the steps, and ending on the upper platform. This house was very old (90+ years) and you could hear every step someone  made because of the floor creaking. When the creaking got to the top platform where the door to my bedroom was and in plain view from the bed I was laying in, I looked over to see what my mom wanted. Only no one was there! I just kept staring, and blinking, thoroughly confused.

You would think that at this time I would have bolted screaming out of my bed and down the stairs but that same strange but wonderful feeling was still with me. I was confused, but oddly, I felt very safe and even joyous. We lived on main street and the streetlights shining through the window provided enough light to see clearly in my room.

After the short pause on the platform, the footsteps then entered my room and started across the floor to my bed in the corner. My eyes followed along with the steps looking exactly where there should have been somebody. Another short pause at the end of my bed and then to my utter astonishment, the bed dented in next to my feet just as it would if someone had sat down. I watched the indention slowly fill back in and felt a brush on my leg. Then, the footsteps started alongside my bed and as it went along, I could feel these slight brief touches going up my leg, to my hips (I was lying on my side with my head on my arm), and up to my shoulder. The footsteps and touches coincided with each other perfectly.

The footsteps stopped right in front of my face and there was another pause. Then I felt a soft hand run it’s fingers lovingly through my hair. I can’t tell you how joyous and warm I felt, it was overwhelming. After a few  seconds, the steps started back down alongside my bed, across the floor, and back to the door. The creaking was heard once again at the top platform, down the steps, and all the way down to the bottom platform. I lay in bed for a long time, just feeling comforted yet wondering what had just happened. It was at least an hour before I fell asleep and I still can’t believe I just stayed there in bed unafraid.

I never told anybody about this. The next evening my parents called my sister and I down from our rooms and told us they had some bad news. They went on to explain that we would be making a trip the next day because my grandmother had just passed away the day before. As soon as those words were out of their mouth my mind immediately went back to the night before and the strange experience I had. I never got to know my grandmother very well, we lived far apart from each other and were never close. But she was sweet, I remember that. I don’t know if it was her that came to visit me or not, but it’s a nice thought!
