10 Hr Audio- Recorder Question
This question was submitted by Carl from New Jersey.
“My bro and I left two Sony digital recorders at a house were investigating, but there’s no tutorials on downloading it from recorder to the PC. Can you help me? I have Audacity, which I purchased on a Ghost Hunt store on the web, and I have the audio software that came with our Sony recorder. WE ARE NOVICES. THANKS.”
Alright Carl… This is an easy one, but I’ll try to be thorough for anyone else who may have these same questions, and not know what to do.
Well, the first thing that ANYONE should have in mind when buying a digital recorder is IF they want to put their recordings onto a computer. In today’s day and age, and with the field the way it is… Transferring your files to a PC is almost MANDATORY. With that in mind, anyone shopping for a digital audio recorder, should make sure that they get a model similar to the one that you bought. Make sure that it has a PC attachment. It’s just a little cord that attaches to the recorder, and plugs into your computer’s USB port.
Usually the ones that connect to the PC have the letters “PC” right there in their model number.
To answer YOUR question, I don’t know the model number of the recorder you own, but they’re all pretty much the same. Install that software you mentioned. That SHOULD be your first step. Usually the software that comes with the recorder is used SPECIFICALLY for transferring your files.
If you’re still having trouble, there are other ways. If your recorder is plugged into your USB port, it SHOULD register in your “MY COMPUTER” directory on your PC as a disc drive. Open it up, browse, find your files, and see if you can move them that way. On a lot of recorders, this won’t work unfortunately, but It’s worth a shot since it takes only about 5 seconds.
Lastly, if ALL ELSE fails, you can transfer the files to your computer manually by recording your audio directly to your PC.
I’ve already written a tutorial on how to get that done. Rewriting the whole thing here, would waste space, and time, and would be stupid. You can find it on our EVP pages.
Or I can just give you a direct link to the tutorial… Wouldn’t that be easier?
Here ya go.

I hope this helps ya! If it doesn’t or you need more help, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Thanks Carl!

Don’t forget too; if it’s a Sony, there is software directly available from Sony’s website that allows you to download, save and convert the files saved on the device!

Just go to that link and you can get the correct software for the recorder if it is available…
Hope this helps!
